Meg Ryan
Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed,
was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut to Susan (Duggan)
who was a former actor and English teacher, as well as Harry Hyra, a maths
teacher. Ruthenian as well as Polish, Irish, German and German descendents.
"Hyra" is her maternal grandmother's maiden name is Ruthenian. Meg
graduated from Bethel high school, Bethel in June 1979. Meg moved to New York
and majored as journalist at New York University. Meg Ryan was her new name,
and she started acting to earn a little extra cash as she finished her
education. She made her screen debut in 1981, with a brief appearance as
Candice Bergen’s daughter in George Cukor's final film Rich and Famous (1981).
She was cast in the character of Betsy in the television soap The World Turns
the World Turns (1956) after she was able to audition. From 1982 until 1984,
she was part of the show's cast. Meg also had a part in the TV series One of
the Boys (1982), however, this show was soon put on hold. In 1984, she moved to
Hollywood and was offered a position with the western television Series
Wildside (1985). Meg was a small part in Top Gun (1986), which led her to be
cast in Steven Spielberg’s Innerspace (1987) where she co-starred with Dennis
Quaid. In D.O.A.'s remake, she played alongside Dennis Quaid. (1988), and were
married on Saint Valentine's Day 1991. In 1989, Meg appeared in When Harry Met
Sally... (1989) and the scene in the restaurant was a hit. Meg was nominated
for the Golden Globe as well as the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom
Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as
DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. She appeared again alongside Tom in the very successful
Sleepless in Seattle (1993) for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe.
In 1994, Meg decided to act as if she was a rebel as an alcoholic wife and
mother in When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). Meg returned to her role as
"cute" following the film's release with I.Q. (1994) as well as
French Kiss (1996). People Magazine voted Meg as one of the top 50 most
beautiful people on earth in 1994.
